Our Deepest Sympathies
[04-Mar-2008]

Turbine would like to express our deepest sympathies to the friends and family of one of the original creators of Dungeons & Dragons™, Gary Gygax. We are deeply saddened at his passing today.

Gary was an enormous contributor to the gaming industry, shaping the realm of role playing entertainment as we know it. We will be forever grateful for his work and influence.

Gary will be sorely missed, but will always be remembered by the millions who live and play in his worlds.

This is old news but it is news I just found out about so it's feeling rather immediate at the moment and the feeling is sadness.

I hope Gary knows the joy he brought a young man of thirteen who found the D&D world the most wonderful playground for his imagination. There were more gaming sessions that 8th grade summer that lasted until the morning light than is respectable, at least one a week for a certainty and sometimes more.

The enjoyment I found in AD&D was and remains incomparable.

I do not like people dying and the whole death thing is one I just cannot stand. Gary improved my quality of living and made life just that much more enjoyable, not much more could I ask of anyone. So I call Gary a friend and mourn his passing.

Now he's with the ultimate GM. I hope he asks about that whole resurrection thing and why Jesus was the only one allowed to have the spell...
